Wedding First Dance Songs

December 12, 2012 by JMF Disco Leave a Comment

Wedding First Dance Songs

Many couples face a dilemma when choosing their wedding first dance song.

Some couples have an ‘our song’ that they associate with a happy or memorable event from their relationship in the past – the song they first danced to in that club where they met, a song from their first concert together or similar landmark events that will always remain in their memories.

But many couples do not have such an obvious song choice to make.

Here are a few suggestions for you to consider – check them out on Youtube to see if any fit the bill – one of these may be ‘your song’:-

All You Need Is Love – The Beatleswedding-dj-kent-first-dance-image
Amazed – Lonestar
At Last – Etta James
Can’t Help Falling In Love – Elvis Presley
Can’t Take My Eyes Off You – Andy Williams
Chasing cars – Snow Patrol
Closing Time – Semisonic
Crazy In Love – Beyoncé & Jay-Z
Dog Days Are Over – Florence & The Machine
Falling In Love With You – UB40
For Once In My Life – Stevie Wonder
God Only Knows – The Beach Boys
Greatest Day – Take That
Have I Told You Lately That I Love You – Van Morrison
I Believe In A Thing Called Love – The Darkness
I Say A Little Prayer – Aretha Franklin
I’ll Be There – Jackson 5
I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
Iris – The Goo Goo Dolls
It Had To Be You – Harry Connick Jr.
Let’s Stay Together – Al Green
Loving You – Paolo Nutini
Make You Feel My Love – Adele
Marry You – Bruno Mars
My Baby Just Cares For Me – Nina Simone
One Day Like This – Elbow
She’s So Lovely – Scouting For Girls
Something – The Beatles
Stand By Me – Ben E. King
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face – Roberta Flack
The Way You Look Tonight – Frank Sinatra
These Arms Of Mine – Otis Redding
Tiny Dancer – Elton John
Turn Me On – Norah Jones
Turn Your Lights Down Low – Bob Marley & The Wailers
Unforgettable – Nat King Cole
Waterloo Sunset – The Kinks
What A Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong
You And Me Song – The Wannadies
You Do Something To Me – Paul Weller

There’s something for nearly everyone here – I hope it helps you in your search for the perfect song.

Alternatively you may choose something a little more bespoke…..

Contact your John on Tel 01795 429777, Mobile 07895 546183 or by email for more advice on choosing your perfect wedding first dance song.

The Saturdays go straight in at Nr 7 with 30 Days – a good dance-pop track – a bit more moodier sounding than their pop past.

My favourite current track Oliver Twist by D’banj enters at Nr 9 – I thought it would do better given all the radio air play it has been receiving lately. Nikki Minaj’s ‘yansh is bigger’ – no it’s just those jeans she was wearing! He shares the same birthday as me (although I am a little bit more experienced!).

Wedding Ceremony Music – Advice From A Kent Wedding DJ

Wedding Ceremony Music – Advice From A Kent Wedding DJ

Choosing your own wedding ceremony music is a fantastic way to personalise your wedding ceremony.

If you are having a religious ceremony in a church you will be able to choose religious music your vicar or priest will be able to offer you advice on suitable music. Your church might have an organ and suitable organist to play the music you want or alternatively your Wedding DJ can provide a suitable PA system to play your chosen wedding ceremony music.

If you are having a civil wedding ceremony or civil partnership ceremony at an ‘approved premises’ – a venue licenced for celebrating marriages approved by Kent County Council – the music must be non-religious. The music chosen should not be offensive in the broad sense of the word – check with your registrar if you are uncertain – and can be contemporary or traditional to suit the style of wedding you are having.

Here are a few popular suggestions for ‘traditional’ wedding ceremony music that you might want for your special day. Click on the links to hear the track. Please note there are variations and different arrangements of the various tracks – so search around to find your favourite version for your wedding ceremony.

  • Wedding March from Lohengrin – R Wagner
  • Wedding March from A Midsummer Night’s Dream – F Mendelssohn
  • Arrival of the Queen of Sheba – GF Handel
  • Trumpet Voluntary (“The Prince of Denmark’s March”) – J Clarke
  • Allegro from The Four Seasons: Spring – A Vivaldi
  • Allegro from Eine Kleine Nachtmusik – WA Mozart
  • Canon in D – J Pachelbel
  • Air on a G string – JS Bach
  • Hornpipe from The Water Music – GF Handel
  • Morning from Peer Gynt Suite No.1,Op.46 – E Greig
  • Largo from Lute Concerto in D – A Vivaldi
  • Pavane – G Faure
  • I Would Be True – Traditional Irish
  • 1st movement (Allegro) from Brandenburg Concerto No.3 in G – JS Bach
  • Trumpet Voluntary, Op.6 No.5 – J Stanley
  • Grand March from Aida – G Verdi
  • Trumpet Tune in D – H Purcell
  • Air from The Water Music – GF Handel
  • Libiamo no’ lieti calici from La Traviata – G Verdi
  • La Rejouissance from Music for the Royal Fireworks – GF Handel

You might not know the titles but hopefully you recognise the music!

Of course there are plenty of other ‘traditional’ music tracks to choose from, and similarly there is a vast range of contemporary music to choose from that may better reflect the style and location venue.
