Wedding Ceremony Music – Advice From A Kent Wedding DJ

Choosing your own wedding ceremony music is a fantastic way to personalise your wedding ceremony.

If you are having a religious ceremony in a church you will be able to choose religious music your vicar or priest will be able to offer you advice on suitable music. Your church might have an organ and suitable organist to play the music you want or alternatively your Wedding DJ can provide a suitable PA system to play your chosen wedding ceremony music.

If you are having a civil wedding ceremony or civil partnership ceremony at an ‘approved premises’ – a venue licenced for celebrating marriages approved by Kent County Council – the music must be non-religious. The music chosen should not be offensive in the broad sense of the word – check with your registrar if you are uncertain – and can be contemporary or traditional to suit the style of wedding you are having.

The above ‘approved premises’ are licensed for marriage ceremonies to take place and can provide elegant surroundings and picturesque gardens. They offer the convenience of the ceremony, reception and entertainment all in one location (some offer more spacious facilities than others), they can provide accommodation and parking for your guests and the traditions and dignity of a wedding ceremony blended with the informality of perhaps a country house party or a guided tour of a brewery!

Check out the individual venue website for more information, make a shortlist and visit your favourites to see if they offer the right package you are looking for – if you want to get married in a tree house check out Sole Street House, if you want some of the best food in Kent try Reids Restaurant – the venues offer plenty of variety for you to choose from.

However, it is a little known fact that your Civil Marriage/Civil Partnership ceremony is not restricted to being performed in just these venues. You may apply to the Registry Office and seek approval for your civil marriage to take place in any ‘suitable’ venue, which may include your home, a marquee set up on your land, a windmill etc, etc – the possibilities are endless. The proposed venue has to be suitable and will be inspected by the Registry Office to approve it, and of course it will involve you in additional cost – but if you have the budget you can get married in a truly unique location.

Religious Ceremonies.

Different faiths have varying and sometimes fascinating wedding traditions ranging from preparation before hand to what to wear at the ceremony. Listed below are some of the venues of the main religious strands where your religious ceremony may take place. Each religion will have their own conditions to be met and procedures to be followed, which is outside the scope of this article.

Buddhist – A Buddist marriage ceremony is secular in nature and normally takes place in a register office, ‘approved premises’ or one of the few Buddhist temples licensed as a legal marriage venue.

Village halls and local pubs will most probably be considered the budget option, however, hiring a hall can enable you splash the cash and create a unique venue decorated exactly as you require that many more expensive venues could not match, walls and ceilings could be lined with twinkling starcloths or dreamy net drapes hired from specialist companies to create your own dream world with your Wedding DJ providing mood lighting/uplighting to match your chosen colour theme in the dreariest of halls.

Wedding Advice – The Wedding To Do List – Top Tips From Your Wedding DJ

Weddings are certainly not the easiest of events to organise – but with the service I offer you do get more than just a disco – the wedding reception planner provided is a great tool to help out – and of course I will provide you with any advice you need taking advantage of my many years of experience – help is just a phone call away.

wedding dj checklist image I wouldn’t claim to be a wedding planner but I have most probably shaken hands with more brides and grooms than your local vicar and have many years of experience dealing with a huge variety of weddings. My top tip would be get yourself a small note book, a small as you can get so you carry it around, and write everything you think of in that – it will act as a handy check list and mean that you do not have to remember everything or will not forget anything as it is written in the book – it will be the best £1 you spend on your whole wedding.

Here’s a checklist that you can use for your arrangements – it’s not exhaustive and may include items that are not applicable to your wedding but it is a good starting point to help you out.

Set a budget with partner (and family).
Book the church or register office. If your wedding is to be held at a licensed venue you will need to provisionally book the registrar, but you must confirm with them three months before the wedding date.
Book wedding transport.
Book photographer.
Book videographer.
Draw up wedding guest list, consulting both families.
Choose the best man, ushers, bridesmaids and page boys.
Book the reception venue and caterers.
Book Wedding DJ.
Book honeymoon, not forgetting peak season is given that name for a reason – it gets booked early.
Arrange wedding insurance if required.
Hunt down the wedding and bridesmaids dresses. Remember made to measure dresses will take longer.
Hire formal wear for the groom, best man, ushers and the fathers.
Meet and confirm arrangements with the minister. Discuss the service, any readings and your choice of music.
Book registrar office if appropriate.
Order wedding stationary ie invitations (day and evening), orders of service, place cards, etc.
Organise and book wedding flowers.
Choose wedding rings.
Order wedding cake. Check with wedding venue if they supply a cake stand and knife.
Confirm wedding music with minister.
Finalise your honeymoon plans and check for any visas or vaccinations that may be necessary.
Book you wedding night hotel.
Buy honeymoon and going away clothes.
Set up wedding gift list with shops of your choice.
Send out wedding invitations at least six weeks before the wedding. Have your wedding present list ready for people who ask for it.
If presents are sent to you before the wedding send a thank you letter now.
Provide guests with details of local accommodation.
Buy presents for the best man, ushers, bridesmaids and mothers.
Chased up outstanding wedding invitations to enable you to finalise the guest list.
Work out the seating plan and write out the place cards.
Ensure wedding clothes will be ready on time (they need to be ready at least one week before).
Visit hairdresser to discuss styles and book final appointment.
Check all transportation has been arranged and check the journey time to the church/venue.
Arrange money for the honeymoon.
Inform banks, utility companies, insurance companies, driving liscence etc. of change of name.
Confirm final guest numbers and meal choices to venue/caterers at least 2 weeks before wedding.
Ensure arrangements for stag and hen nights are in place.
Checks everything is in place for honeymoon including tickets, local currency, travellers cheques and passports.
Pack clothes for honeymoon you wont need before the wedding.
Attend rehearsal for the ceremony and check wedding orders of service have been given to the best man or ushers.
Arrange practice of hair and make up for the bride.
The case for your honeymoon needs to be sent to your overnight hotel.
Arrange for wedding outfits need to be packed and taken home and returned to hirer’s whilst you are away on honeymoon.
Wedding presents need to be carefully packed up and taken home.
Arrange for wedding cake to be sent to people unable to attend the wedding.
